How long have you been doing what you do? I have been a social worker for more than 20 years, working to serve population that are in need. I have been with the Department of Veteran Affairs for more than 13 years serving veterans and their caregivers.

What have been your challenges?  I have had many challenges in my life. I have had to combat homelessness, a loss of a marriage, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs and other opportunities, and the list can go on and on. These challenges as well as others seemed like the end of my life, while I was standing in them, but when I look back on it- those challenges came to push me to be who I am today, In the perfect world, I would choose not to deal with challenges, but I know that is not how life goes. Challenges come to build character and are used to help others.

What are your greatest accomplishments?  I would identify my greatest accomplishments as being a mom to the best children in the world! I would also consider my accomplishments being the story of survival and persistence that has been given to me. I had to work hard to be where I am today. I am proud of the work that I have done and the work that I will continue to do in the communities that I serve.

What are your plans for the future?  My future plans include living the best life that I am able to live. I have learned that life is indeed too short and there is little time for the people and things that really matter. In addition to living and creating the best life that I can, I want to continue to work in the field of social work, serving learners, communities, and populations in need. I plan to leave a strong legacy for my children and those around me. I want to continue to work with women and help mentor those who need help and growth.

How can people contact you?  I can be reached by email:  thecarmela@outlook.com and through our business line at (937) 668-9761
