Aisha : Ms Voluptuous DE

I had the delightful experience of meeting Ms. Aisha Monroe at a back-to-school event for young ladies, and as they say, once you cross paths with a Queen, you become sister queens. The realm of pageantry is truly incredible. Let’s embark on a journey to discover everything there is to know about this extraordinary Queen!

Tell us about Ms. Aisha

Currently I am the first Ms Voluptuous Delaware in the Miss Voluptuous pageant system. The MVP system provides the opportunity for role models across the world to share their platforms, ideas and visions for the future with other beautiful and likeminded women, without our size being the “elephant in the room”. Often times sizing felt like it was limiting and undermining my impact. The MVP motto is to Empower, Elevate, Celebrate and it’s not just buzz words or click bait. Soon to be Dr. Monroe! I am a lifelong learner, reader, question – asker sister and mentor. Currently the Assistant Director of Student Success. I love watching documentaries, I enjoy reading, finding new music and an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.

Tell everyone a little about your platform?

My Platform is Helping Communities grow and G.L.O.W. ( Give light to our world) through intentional and deliberate conversations. With the hopes of community members being connected to data, research and community change agents where community members decide the important issues and or points of concern.

What sparked your interest and led you to step into the captivating world of pageantry?

I started pageants because I lost a bet, but through the process I’ve gained an admiration for the women who compete. I continue to compete in pageants to show viewers that beauty, intelligence, poise, grace and courage come in all shapes and sizes.

What achievement are you most proud of?

My proudest accomplishment is my level of faith. Over the past few years I’ve been working on moving through survival mode and shifting to thriving and growing. My faith in knowing who I am and Who’s I am is allowing me to pull out my creativity, pull out my vulnerability and not feel like I have to apologize for my sureness and not apologize for understanding my worth and value.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I just learned how to play Spades as an Adult

If you could share a meal with anyone, be it from the past or present, who would be your ideal dinner companion?

I would love to have dinner with Anglea Davis. Angela Davis is my political activist shero. I admire her and followed her involvement with the Black Panther Party, her advocation for the abolishment of prison’s. I would love to pick her brain about intersectionality, teaching and being a writer.

What aspirations are you currently working towards?

I want to break the stigma about therapy and the work on being present. If you are unable to be present enough to enjoy life then for the most part you’ll be on auto-pilot. Another goal is to know who I am uninterrupted which means understanding what I am able to build when I have green lights( Space, time and funds) to create. I want to finally publish my series of poetry.

Tell me the story of your most embarrassing moment.

My most embarrassing moment would have to be thinking I know a stranger. I was at this event and talking to this person who looked like someone I knew. I was 100 percent convinced the person was someone I went to school with and walked up and was like hey girl! Gave her a hug and everything. I was full of energy talking about a class we were in only to realize mid conversation it wasn’t her. We kept talking and laughed about it and she was a good sport. Apparently, that sort of thing happens because she has a common name like Jasmine.
