Some dreams are born in a single moment. Others are quietly nurtured for years, waiting for the right season to bloom.
For Danielle Yancey, Founder and Executive Director of Pink Pageant Productions, Inc., the vision for the Phenomenal Empress Pageant has been more than two decades in the making. After years of mentoring queens, directing pageants, producing events, and helping others fulfill their dreams, Danielle is finally bringing one of her own to life.
The Phenomenal Empress Pageant isn't simply another competition. It is a movement designed to celebrate women 40 and over—women whose greatest accomplishments aren't behind them, but still unfolding.
"I created this pageant to recognize women not simply for how they look, but for who they are, what they have overcome, how they serve, and the impact they continue to make," Danielle shares.
That philosophy is woven into every aspect of the organization. While contestants will certainly compete for titles, Danielle hopes they leave with something far more valuable than a crown. She envisions women walking away with renewed confidence, lifelong friendships, a deeper sense of purpose, and the assurance that their stories matter.
At a time when society often places unrealistic expectations on women and frequently overlooks those over 40, Phenomenal Empress intentionally shifts the conversation.
"This pageant is not built solely around beauty or competition," Danielle explains. "We celebrate accomplishments, but we also acknowledge the challenges, disappointments, setbacks, and even the downfalls that helped shape the women we have become."
Contestants are encouraged to share their voices, highlight the causes closest to their hearts, showcase their community service, and embrace every chapter of their journey. Rather than hiding life's difficult moments, Danielle believes those experiences often become the very foundation of a woman's strength.
"I don't want women to feel as though they have to erase the difficult chapters of their lives to be considered phenomenal," she says. "Those chapters are part of the testimony."
For Danielle, launching this pageant has also become a powerful reminder that purpose often arrives in perfect timing.
Reflecting on her own entrepreneurial journey, she says one of her greatest lessons has been understanding that delays are not always denials.
"This dream has been more than 20 years in the making," she says. "Every success, disappointment, challenge, relationship, and lesson has helped prepare me for this moment. Today, I understand why the journey had to happen the way it did."
That perspective makes the inaugural Phenomenal Empress Pageant especially meaningful.
"There will never be another first," Danielle says with excitement.
The women who step onto the stage in 2027 won't simply compete for a title. They will become the founding class of an organization Danielle hopes will inspire generations to come. She looks forward to watching contestants build authentic relationships, champion meaningful causes, discover new confidence, and recognize the incredible influence they already possess.
For women wondering whether they belong, Danielle offers a reassuring invitation.
"You don't have to come to us with years of pageant experience. You don't have to fit someone else's definition of perfection. And you certainly don't have to have a perfect story."
Instead, she encourages women to bring exactly who they are.
"Bring your story. Bring your accomplishments, your lessons, your challenges, your purpose, your personality, and your heart for service."
It's an invitation rooted in authenticity—a reminder that every season of life has value and every woman has something meaningful to contribute.
Looking toward the future, Danielle's vision reaches far beyond crowns and sashes.
She hopes Phenomenal Empress becomes an organization that continues to empower women long after each competition ends. One where former contestants confidently use their voices, mentor others, strengthen their communities, and remind future generations that purpose does not expire with age.
"I want our queens and contestants to leave footprints in their communities through service, mentorship, advocacy, and leadership," she says. "Crowns will eventually be passed to the next queen. Sashes will eventually be put away. But the lives you touch, the women you empower, and the communities you strengthen—that is the legacy."
At its core, Phenomenal Empress is built upon three simple but powerful ideals:
Empowering Women. Raising Awareness. Inspiring Hope.
Perhaps Danielle says it best herself:
"Your story isn't over. Your purpose hasn't expired. Your greatest chapter may still be waiting to be written. Continue to stand for what is phenomenal, because I know you already are."
