Letter from the Editor-December 2023

WHEW! I don’t know about you but I’m ready for 2024. The end of 2023 rocked me with Corporate Downsizing, Illness, rising prices, and just a general “funk”. I became the latest in a growing village of people that want to just hang out in their jammies because outside was just “too much” most days as I tried to process my new normal. But it left me with a deeper question…what is “normal”? Is it working for an organization for years, sacrificing time and freedom only to be told “yeah we don’t need you anymore (even though you do a great job, it was “luck of the draw that we have to cut you”?) considered normal? Is missing out on family time because someone else has a fire for you to fight considered “normal”? I don’t think so. (well, unless you’re a firefighter…but I digress)

We weren’t created to work, work, work and be discontent, uneasy and frazzled all the time. But we were created with a purpose, to bring joy, encouragement and a service or product to the world that fills a need. We were created to have balance, and we were create to have peace. So dear friends, as we head into this time of the year that can be challenging as we process our accomplishments or misses for the year and start to think goal setting, I encourage you to think of the bigger picture, are you taking time for YOU each day, to show yourself a little love, a little grace, and a little quiet time to just be? Are you building the friendships that matter? Not those surface friendships that are only active during that season or situation, but the deep, meaningful friendships that are there through anything. Are you taking time to enjoy outside? Are you taking time to do more than secure the bag? If not, let’s make that our focus for the New Year because these are the things that will matter long term.

I’ve never seen someone on their deathbed saying they wish they worked more or spent more time with co-workers, but rather wishing they had more time with family, fur babies, taking a chance, trying a new hobby or trend. Let’s head into 2024 with the mindset that we will create a space that fulfills us wholeheartedly, that we can’t wait to jump out of bed each day to begin.

That’s where this month’s issue is inspiring. We have some incredible girl bosses featured for December. We have one that created a village for families that needed support because they found this was lacking in our world. We have a rising star that went from Homeless to rocking the “Yellow Carpet”. And we have our Cover Girl, Charlotte, who is an inspiration for us on those days when we feel that we can’t do something, that we don’t have enough time, or we aren’t enough. I hope that you will enjoy our December magazine and as you are setting your intentions for 2024, let’s think about how YOU are creating magazine moments in your own life by fulfilling your purpose.

XOXO

Nichelle
