Could you provide some insights into the inspiration behind your business? How did you come up with the idea, and what led to the establishment of your company?

The idea for my business came about back in 2016. I was extremely overweight and had some health challenges and decided to take my life back and lost over 115lbs naturally through clean eating and exercise. I created Total Body Basics as a result so I could help other people do the same. Total Body Basics is a health and wellness company that houses a diverse roster of clients who are on a journey to lose weight, maintain weight loss, or simply want to become healthier versions of themselves. TBB started out as just me coaching others based off of my experience but over time (and a few certifications), we have been able to offer services such as consultations to discuss and create a plan of action for clients, weekly meal prep, clean cooking sessions, personal shopping services, and workout sessions for those who may need guidance on their journey.

What are some effective strategies for cultivating a thriving customer base?

I found that word-of-mouth and showcasing results worked best in our beginning years. Potential customers wanted to see how we helped people just like them before they invested in us. Now, we don’t do much marketing because the word of our past and current customers does the heavy lifting for us.

What is your vision for the future of your business? How do you envision its growth and development over the next five years?

I see my business as being one of the top wellness companies operating out of my own commercial space in the tri-state area, offering clients a full, clean eats menu, a full schedule of weekly fitness classes, cleaning catering, and more.

What are the most challenging aspects of being a female entrepreneur?

The hardest part of being an entrepreneur is having to take losses because of something you may or may not have done. It’s so easy to blame others when you’re working your traditional job. You can blame your supervisor/boss for something not panning out the way you thought or you can blame others for trying to “keep you down,” but who can you blame when YOU are the one in charge? No one but yourself and you have to be okay with that.

How do you personally define success as a woman?

Success is when you have accomplished a part of your ultimate goal. Notice I didn’t say success is when you have accomplished that goal fully. Success is when you have taken even one step toward that ultimate goal in your life and/or business.

Success is when you have accomplished a part of your ultimate goal
