Meet our NOLA Girl….. Richelle Woodfork-Newton

My Name is Richelle Woodfork -Newton and I am a 53-year-old African female who has lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, all my life. I have been a wife to Mr. Terry Newton twice and am a Big Sister to the first African American Chief of police here in the city, Chief Michelle Woodfork. I am the oldest daughter of Richard and Tina Woodfork. Christopher Martin Woodfork is my biological son, who is (deceased), and I am the adoptive mother of Ronald Woodfork. I have one amazing and handsome nephew who has been an A student since kindergarten.

I attended St Mary’s Academy from 1983 – 1988, where I received my high school diploma, and went on to Dillard University, where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Upon working on my degree, I gave birth to an 8 lb. 6 oz baby boy who was called home to the lord at the age of 5 years old. As a result of losing my son, I decided to change my major to early childhood education and I received my B.S. Degree from Dillard University. Upon attending school, I gave back to children in the New Orleans area, where I did Foster Care; after doing it for about two years, I decide to adopt a little boy at the age of 9 years old whom I raised until he was able to go on his own. I then returned to school to work on my master’s degree in special education, which I received in 2021.

I am also the CEO of CMW Creative Hands, where I do different creative things, like door decorations, party favors, t-shirts, cups, and handkerchiefs, baking different items, etc.

In the next 5 years,

I am looking for a center that will serve special needs citizens. I am also looking to put some things together to help our community in a big way.

What has been your biggest accomplishment and why?

My biggest accomplishment was finishing my education at Dillard University and impacting foster care children here in New Orleans for the better. Also another achievement of mine was to start my own business C.M.W. Creative Hands.

I would like to share the message:

When you have God in the plan, know that everything will come in due time.

When you have God in the plan, know that everything will come in due time.

My Superpower, or as we call it, what makes you the ISH?

I am a woman with a giving heart, who is passionate about helping kids in our community.

What do you love most about New Orleans?

The thing I love about the city I was born in is the culture. There is NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!
