Erika Alexander : Fluid Foods ATL CEO

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” - Mae West

A mom, teacher, entrepreneur, writer and a true G.R.I.T(Girl Raised in the South) in every sense of the word. If you come by, first meeting or not, she’s going to hug you, try to feed you and get you a drink! By day Erika works as a Special Education middle school math teacher for an awesome Charter School in Dekalb County Georgia and then spends her afternoons tutoring. Her next, most intriguing and favorite job, is being a boy mom. She describes every day as an adventure with her 13-year-old son- if you know, you know. Blessed with a servant’s heart, in between all of this she’s usually volunteering her time to different events and causes.

Taking Atlanta’s foodie scene by storm, this East Side entrepreneur, affectionately known by her early fans as the “Kitchen Kutie” is rising! Erika’s current baby, or should we say toddler since she’s two years in, is her custom cocktail & cake company- Fluid Foods ATL. Her alcohol-infused custom creations are made to fit any occasion, theme, event or party size. She’s well-known for her creatively named party pouches but her boozy bundtz aren’t to be overlooked either.

A lover of life and one who has always loved the phrase “ Carpe Diem”, Erika Alexander seizes the day at every chance she gets. She wears so many hats already and recently added Writer to that collection- Erika is working on a passion project and is also a writer for SitiGirl Magazine Atlanta.

Hobbies/Pastimes…

I enjoy volunteering, writing, socializing, hanging out with family & friends, adventuring and traveling. I also love to cook and, what I should have said first, shop(if that counts)- probably my worst hobby.

What are little known facts about you…

I love to cook and can make a lot of things but I can NOT make rice out of the bag. Rack of lamb, a souffle, grits are bomb, and maybe even macaroons but not rice. I don’t know…(shaking her head and shrugs)

What are you passionate about…

I actually have a few passions- advocacy, writing and entertaining. As a special education teacher I am extremely dedicated to making sure scholars have access and are provided the supports they need for a successful educational journey. And I am not only an advocate or voice for my students but my parents as well- it is important they know their rights and entitlements as well as the resources available for caregivers. Just as important, I want to ensure that scholars are getting the treatment and considerations they deserve from the individuals they cross paths with.

Writing and entertaining kind of go together for me, they both act as a way for me to express myself while also decompressing. Being a pisces, creativity is a big thing for me. I can write as a way to express my feelings or create a whole other reality that allows me to escape into my own little world. Entertaining for me does the same thing. I get to express my love and feed my nurturing spirit and at the same time fill my social battery through fellowshipping. If I’m making a custom creation then I get to tie in a theme and that’s just icing on the cake.

Tell us about Fluid Foods ATL…

I would say it is the best of both worlds. No matter what your spirit of choice is, all  cocktails are made special for each client and available for an individual or a group and tailored to any theme. If you have a sweet tooth, her cakes and cupcakes are alcohol-infused from the actual cake to the homemade icing. My clients range from bachelorettes to party goers to divorcees to corporate levels. As the motto says, “Turn any situation into a LITUATION!”

How did you get started…

“Fluid Foods ATL is something I fell into. Family, friends and fellowship have always been important to me so spending time together and enjoying life are on the top of my list. I’ve always had an affinity for hosting events and making drinks was a big part of that. I dabbled in mixing spirits in with my cooking as well- I make a delicious Bourbon glazed ham, but I have never been much of a baker. I made a few cupcakes for my aunt’s birthday and it became a thing. Working with Polari ATL pivoted me into making signature drinks and custom cocktails and it just blossomed from there.”

What’s next…

“My next move is to work on getting event contracts, maybe opening a small storefront but I’m loving my progress right now! I spent the last year going to pop-ups and events to increase my client base and affiliations which allowed me to become a Premier Vendor. I am also growing my website and trying to keep up with all the social media marketing and promoting, that is a job in itself. I’m also focusing on my writing projects so I look forward to watching them come to fruition. I am manifesting continued growth mentally, physically and financially!!”

Parting Words…

Don’t be afraid to be uncomfortable. Whether it be in love, work or life in general- if you always do what makes you happy or brings you joy you’ll regret nothing. Stepping outside of my comfort zone has been a great adventure and allowed me to express my creative side and grow in many other ways… as well as use these three degrees I attained- now I can pay for them too!
