Let’s Celebrate the New with Mental Wellness

There is no time like now for the NEW! Like the smell of a new leather bag right out of its secured wrapping. Can you smell it ladies… I can! New shoes, new season, warm hugs and fresh ideas are upon us! The season of transition and jubilee is now upon us! A time like no other to give that extra hug and express your value for others, memories shared, and homes in the near months will be filled with familiar scents that draw us together. COVID-19, for some, has ushered in with it an impetus to celebrate and has magnified the need for closeness in the midst of passing restrictions. The psychological impact of COVID-19 on the mental health in the general population has been intrinsic, innervating delicate extremes of mental wellness. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has reported over 10.8 million cases reported since January 21, 2020 and more than 244,000 deaths. So, while many are looking forward to finding something to celebrate, there exists a widening margin who are enduring the various psychological problems and consequences in terms of mental health including, stress, anxiety, depression, frustration, and uncertainty during the COVID-19 outbreak amongst pre-existing medical unrelated conditions.

The delicate and necessary vigilance to identify and show care for people across blood lines, color and socio-economic status is vital. Humanity’s resilient journey of movement through very challenging historical moments will show us rising above them all, if analyzed. It is with no doubt that the time is critical, but history has prepared us for it. We must keep our eyes open to those we might have busily moved passed historically.

I challenge every reader, to comb through your respective neighborhoods, work environments and affiliations or link with charitable organizations to see how you can be of service now more than ever. I have learned and seen the impact of one rock causing a ripple-effect resonating across a body of water, impacting all that resides below. Yes, many require specialized psychological help, but showing a smile, a food plate, or socks can impact many in ways that a drug cannot. I have found perception to be reality for many. Let’s approach the holiday season with a heart to celebrate mental wellness for all. If we all could throw a rock of care for our respective communities, we will work to shatter swooning perceptions that others can’t see beyond their immediate conditions or situations to show care.  We will cause a ripple effect creating a space for needed healing, resilience and global mental wellness. Be all that you have ever dreamed! Come into the new with Mental Wellness!
