Dr. Sonja Elise Freeman, or also know as Queen Diva, is a native New Yorker blessed with a heart for serving and song. At the age of 8, her family relocated to Houston, TX and she began to bloom in the south. She went on to gain her Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Minored in Fashion Merchandising at Prairie View A&M University. At PVAMU, you can find a trail set ablaze as she participated in many social activities; inclusive of her beginnings in pageantry and sorority life. Dr. Sonja Elise went on to earn an Executive MBA, Master’s in Communication, and has been granted a Honorary Doctorate in Divinity. She is so much more than a talented pretty face, she is a beautiful servant leader. Songstress Dr. Sonja Elise has been graced with many titles and has graced many stages.
Queen Diva has traveled cross country gaining life knowledge working contracts and negotiations, lived in San Diego, LA, back to New York, and then Houston again. In New York, post college, she worked writing background vocals, and stage and costume design. She immersed herself in the music culture. She loved being surrounded by other artists. When asked what is something she would share with her younger self, she responded, “Queen, you are doing a lot of things, you need to focus on one thing… I would have focused on just singing.” She takes her life knowledge and shares this beautifully many ways including ministry, podcasts, and pageantry.
May is very special to Dr. Sonja Elise. She has chosen this month because it’s Mental Health Awareness Month. She has been a faithful Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Advocate while producing and starring in her acclaimed Off-Broadway showcase called ” Strength of a Woman: A Phyllis Hyman Tribute Starring Queen Diva” nationwide. She is celebrating 10 years of producing this concert tour and is currently raising funds to record a tribute album and documentary to be released next year to celebrate on July 6, 2024, Songstress Phyllis Hyman’s 75th birthday had she lived. This month she has kicked off fundraising efforts to start recording with a Jazz Trio. She is walking by faith and not by sight on this because she knows this album and documentary needs to be recorded and produced.
Queen Diva has been nominated as a Podcaster of the Year & Phenomenal Leader 2023 Speak Up! Sis. Awards. She is the Founder and Executive Producer of Divine Voices Media, and currently holds the title of Ms. Achievement Barbados 2023.
